Formaldehyde-Free Boards for Custom Carpentry
At Picket & Rail, every custom carpentry project is built with formaldehyde-free grade boards selected for long-term durability, structural strength, and safer indoor living.
Customers can choose between two premium board options: our formaldehyde-free engineered wood panel or our formaldehyde-free plywood. Both are selected to meet high material standards, with the final recommendation depending on the design, structure, colour choice, and budget.
Formaldehyde-Free Engineered Wood Panel
Our engineered wood panel is made by compressing solid wood material into a dense and stable board. This process helps reduce the risk of warping, bending, or distortion over time, making it ideal for wardrobes, tatami storage beds, bunk beds, kitchen cabinets, bookshelves, and other custom-built furniture.
With a load-bearing strength of up to 650kg per square metre, it is suitable for heavy-duty storage and long-term structural use. Depending on the design configuration, the board thickness ranges from 18mm to 35mm.
This is also the most versatile option for homeowners who want more colour choices, more finishing options, and strong value without compromising on formaldehyde-free standards.
Formaldehyde-Free Plywood
For customers who prefer plywood construction, we also offer formaldehyde-free grade plywood as a premium material option.
Our plywood is available in 18mm and 25mm thicknesses. The 18mm plywood is already made with 9-ply construction, while the 25mm plywood comes with 12-ply construction. In many market offerings, 9-ply plywood is positioned as an upgraded or premium specification. At Picket & Rail, this is already our starting standard for plywood.
Plywood is generally higher in cost and may have fewer colour and finishing choices compared with engineered wood panels. However, it remains an excellent choice for customers who prefer layered board construction and are looking for formaldehyde-free plywood with stronger internal build quality.

Which Board Should You Choose?
Both options are suitable for premium custom carpentry.
Our engineered wood panel is recommended for homeowners who want maximum design flexibility, more colour choices, strong structural performance, and excellent value. Our plywood option is recommended for customers who prefer traditional layered construction and are comfortable with a more selective range of finishes.
Whichever board you choose, our focus remains the same: formaldehyde-free materials, durable construction, and custom furniture built for long-term everyday use.
