How You Can Keep Your Child Cool & Comfy

How You Can Keep Your Child Cool And Comfortable In Their Car Seats During Those Longer Rides

Admit it - there is nothing more frustrating than being stuck in traffic on the hottest day of the year. How do you think your little ones feel in the back seat? They’ll be surrounded with thick fabric, tightly strapped, and with limited room to move.

Fortunately for you,  there are simple ways to keep the kids cool and comfy that will make the next road trip, or even just a short trip to the supermarket, much more enjoyable.

Tinted Windows

Getting your windows tinted might actually be something that crossed your mind even before your child was even born. Whether you are on your way to work or on a road trip, the Singapore sun can take a toll on a person’s skin, even with the cars air conditioner turned on. The rays that come through the window and onto your skin can burn, and not only make you feel uncomfortable but also cause UV damage. So getting your car windows tinted is one of the many options that will make your ride both safer and more pleasant for you and everyone else in your car.

Window Shades

In addition to getting your windows tinted, be sure to purchase reflective sun shades for your windscreen. They’ll prevent the sun rays from entering your car and heating up the dashboard and steering wheel.

Cooling Technology

At Maxi-Cosi, some of our car seat models come with advanced designs intended to keep your baby as cool as possible during those hot Australian summer days. These seats feature 3D mesh fabric which offers another layer of support and ventilation. Additionally, this fabric is combined with our Cool Baby™ wicking fabric that provides an additional layer of ventilation and clean and free airflow. With our car seats, your baby’s skin will be able to breathe, making for a less stressful car ride for your child.

Lighter Colours

Every summer, you avoid wearing clothing items in darker shades, as they are known to absorb more sunlight. Just as well, a child is likely to feel more comfortable in a car seat made from lighter materials that will produce far less heat.

Car Seat Shade

Does your baby capsule or car seat come with a sunshade? Even though you are practically indoors, it can come in handy when those strong sun rays shine directly onto the back seat of your car. Still, be sure to double-check whether the baby gets enough air movement underneath it.

Hydrate

It’s simple, always have a bottle of water on you. Since we sweat more in the summer, our body needs much more water to replenish the fluids.

And when we say water, we mean it - don’t equate it with juices and other beverages that are full of sugar. Though they are refreshing at first, some can even make you thirstier, as the sugars will send the brain the message that the body requires more water.

You could even get portable travel freezers to have by your side when you know you’re going to spend a few hours in the car.

Final tip: Careful with the air conditioning

We understand the outside temperature can be unbearable, which is why we tend to set up the air conditioner to lower the room temperature to around 18°C. However, note that medical experts recommend keeping the indoor temperature no more than 10°C lower than the outside to avoid shocking your body.

The same goes for the car temperature - at first, it may feel much better getting in an extremely cooled space, when in reality, it may affect you and your family’s health in a negative way.
